Eurovision 2024

Watched Eurovision last night. Damn good line-up; this year the music quality matched the drama surrounding the show. I was fully behind Croatia, my favourite moment overall and the one I voted for. (Norway, Spain and Armenia were awesome as well). The Swiss moment was far from being my favourite but it checked all the boxes for an ESC winner (campy, fun, colourful, hip, sweet lyrics); found it surprising that people loved his simple teetering on a see-saw, and then I remembered I loved Lena’s “Satellite” from 2010 which was a moment as minimalistic as they come. To each their own, Eurovision’s never gonna please everyone and I’m just glad none of the duds won – too bad some came as far as 5th…

As the night came to a close I was on the edge of my ass cheeks as the televoting results came in. For about a minute I was really bummed about Nemo taking the prize instead of Baby Lasagna; but then I saw Nemo accepted Bambie Thug’s crown of thorns and performed with it, and in the end even broke the trophy. Liked the fella a lot more after that as it created a fitting and symbolic ending for the whole 2024 Eurovision drama. Nothing else to do now but rock out to this year’s bangers and wait for the next one.
