Beck – Guero – 7⭐

Beck’s the type of guy who, at 19, catches “a bus to New York City with little more than $8.00 and a guitar.” He reminds me of David Bowie in many ways; he’s got a blonde and skinny look, an unexceptional voice, and a massive talent at skating around genres, instruments, and sounds.

Can’t say I followed Beck too much, but every time I catch a song of his I love the style and think I should go all-in on his discography. This album’s doesn’t disappoint. It’s got a bit of rock, a pinch of funk, a sprinkle of hip-hop… And an exclusive sound that few could even replicate. I’m sure he’s doing well, but it still seems like he’s underrated. Awesome album, but it’s better taken as a whole, because as innovative as some of these songs feel, there are few which would be “commercially viable”.
