An absolute banger of an album, this came up at the peak of the Britpop madness of the ’90s. I was still sucking my thumb around then but I’ve read about the crazy rivalry between Blur and Oasis, not to mention their attempt to enter the American market while grunge and alt rock were at their peak as well.
I’m not too informed about the Gallaghers, I know they’re both a bit nuts in their own way and they like to “get inspired” by other big musicians, but most artists do that. And the result is fantastic here. Simple but memorable instrumentals, Liam’s jarring vocals and a bit more working-class lyrics, it’s an instant classic and probably one of the best that came out of the 1990s.
