Billy Idol – Cyberpunk – 3⭐

There’s an episode in Season 6 of Community where the Dean gets a VR operating system and it’s an absolutely overblown, overproduced and overdesigned crock of shit. But it’s “the future” so he’s blown away.

This is how this album seems to have come up. Billy one day found out about computers and e-mail and went absolutely all-in on the concept for his next album. While the sentiment is appreciated, when the concept is evolving from one day to the next, the result can become outdated before you even release it. there are some songs like “Tomorrow People” which could have been the soundtrack to the Quake video games – in the worst way.

There are a few hot tracks like “Shock to the System” and “Adam in Chains” (which could have started halfway through as well) but it’s clear the concept album lost steam very quickly. Songs like “Concrete Kingdom” and “Neuromancer” (why?) are absolute album-padding nonsense.
3/10, tops.
