11/22/63 – Stephen King – 9⭐

King is the King of the kind of simple premises. This one’s similar: what if you could go back to the ’60s and have the opportunity to stop JFK’s assassination, a massive turning point in the world’s history.

I read that King did a ton of research for this book and it absolutely shows; it might be a long book (average by King standards) but it reads so naturally and brings you right into 1960’s America. It’s so beautiful and well done that I would have gladly read twice as many pages.

It’s said that King doesn’t do the best endings and I totally understand why some high concepts aren’t wrapped up as neatly as they deserve. This isn’t exactly the case. Because the premise is, let’s say, a bit supernatural, the outcome of the book is quite understandable even if a bit frustrating. Fortunately by the time you get there you’re so invested in other things that aren’t specifically related to the assassination that the ending is… absolutely fine. And quite sweet.

A solid 9 from me, one of my favourite books of all time.

James Franco does a tremendous job in the mini-series, that gets a 10/10 simply because it’s done perfectly and it makes me want more (even more so than the book).
